There is a particular kind of light in the Berkshires — long, low and golden against the hills — and a particular kind of architecture to stand inside it. Gilded Age cottages, carved oak, soaring plaster ceilings and gardens that feel like film sets. For couples who want their wedding imagery to feel cinematic and editorial rather than ordinary, Western Massachusetts is one of the most photogenic corners of New England.

Why the Berkshires for an editorial wedding
The Berkshires trade beachfront for something moodier: historic mansions, stone churches, mountain views and a cultural pedigree — Tanglewood, the Mount, Edith Wharton’s gardens — that draws couples who care about design. It is a region built for intimate, intentional weddings where the setting does half the storytelling. For a dark, romantic or black-tie editorial direction, few places in Massachusetts compete.
Ventfort Hall — a Gilded Age mansion in Lenox
Built in 1893 for Sarah Morgan, sister of financier J.P. Morgan, Ventfort Hall is a Jacobean Revival mansion at the heart of the Berkshires. Hand-carved oak, soaring plaster ceilings, seventeen fireplaces and a ninety-foot veranda make it feel less like a venue and more like a film set. For a moody, editorial wedding, the house does half the work.
An editorial approach in the Berkshires
Gothic architecture was made for this. Candlelight against carved oak, long shadows down a grand staircase, the weight of a century-old house — it gives moody, editorial imagery a depth you can’t fake on a blank backdrop. I compose each frame so the architecture carries as much weight as the couple, and light with intention so every scene reads cinematic rather than posed.
