Historic Estate & Garden Venues

• Middleton Place. America’s oldest landscaped gardens on the Ashley River. The Pavilion and the Parterre each host up to 300 guests with garden and lake backdrops in every direction.

Twenty to forty minutes from downtown, the barrier islands trade cobblestones for dunes and true oceanfront ceremonies.

• Wild Dunes Resort. Isle of Palms oceanfront resort with ceremony lawns, ballrooms, and room blocks for up to 500 guests. The full wedding weekend property.
• The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island. Dunes and Atlantic horizon at the island’s eastern tip. The Atlantic Room hosts up to 120 guests, up to 300 with the tented lower lawn.

Questions to Ask Before Booking

Five questions every couple should ask their Charleston venue. These are the ones the planning packets leave out.

1. What is the real rain plan, and can I see photos of it in use? Garden and lawn venues photograph very differently under a tent. Ask to see a real rainy day gallery, not a rendering.
2. What time does amplified music need to end? Outdoor music cutoffs vary by neighborhood and venue in Charleston. The answer shapes your whole reception timeline.
3. Where do portraits happen at golden hour? Ask which spaces face west and whether they are reserved for your use. The best light of the day should not belong to another event.
4. What does capacity look like with a dance floor? Published maximums often assume no dance floor and no band. Get the seated number with the floor plan you actually want.
5. Which vendors are required and which are open? Some Charleston venues require in house catering or a closed vendor list. Confirm your photographer, planner, and band can all come with you.
