Why Cape Cod for your elopement

Cape Cod is the easiest place in New England to elope. The beaches are public. The inns are small. The off season is long. Most of the elopements I photograph here happen with fewer than twenty guests, often fewer than ten, sometimes just the couple. The Cape lets you do whatever you want.

You can do a sunrise ceremony on a beach in Wellfleet, drive thirty minutes to a private inn for lunch, and be back in your hotel suite by mid afternoon. You can rent the entire dining room of a Sandwich bed and breakfast for sixteen people on a Friday night for less than a Boston ballroom asks for a forty minute ceremony. You can be married on Cliff Walk at six AM with three hours of golden ocean light to yourself. The Cape’s biggest resort venues will host your elopement. But the hidden gems are where the real magic is.

The Belfry Inn & Bistro (Sandwich)

A converted Victorian and historic church on Jarves Street. Three buildings, sixteen rooms, an in house chef. They host elopements the way an inn should: as an event for the whole inn, not a transaction. The Drew Chapel space holds up to forty for ceremony, the dining room handles intimate receptions. Sandwich itself is one of the prettiest villages on the Cape and almost no one shoots weddings here. belfryinn.com

The Lighthouse Inn (West Dennis)

Family run since 1938, with a private beach and ocean lawn for ceremonies. The Lighthouse Inn is one of the last classic Cape Cod resorts that still feels small enough to elope at. You can rent a single cottage, host a small reception in the main dining room, and walk five minutes to a private stretch of sand for portraits. lighthouseinn.com

Pelham House Resort (Dennis Port)

The closest cliff-to-ocean ceremony lawn on the Cape. Pelham House is built around an oceanfront grass terrace that makes the entire Atlantic feel like your ceremony backdrop. Cape Cod beach elopements

If you want to be married on a Cape beach with no venue and no rental, you can. Every Cape town requires a permit. Permits cost between 200 and 500 dollars. They take about two to four weeks to issue. The permit does not reserve the beach: you share the space with whoever else is on the sand. For most January through May or October through December elopements that means you have the beach to yourselves.

Race Point Beach (Provincetown)

The only Cape beach with true west facing ocean sunset views. Race Point is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore so permits are processed by the National Park Service. The drive from Boston is roughly two hours, but the sunset is unmatched. National Park Service info

Nauset Light Beach (Eastham)

I photograph Cape Cod elopements year round. My approach is editorial first: I’m not the photographer who blocks out a four hour portrait schedule or runs your timeline. I show up, I read the room, I move quietly, and I deliver a gallery that feels like the actual day.

Most Cape Cod elopements I photograph run two to six hours. That is usually enough for getting ready, ceremony, portraits, and a small dinner or champagne toast. I deliver galleries in three to four weeks, fully edited, with print release. I am fully licensed and insured for every Cape venue I have worked at.

January and February elopements at indoor inns are also magical and run at a fraction of peak pricing.

Do I need a permit for a Cape Cod beach elopement?

Yes for most beaches. National Seashore beaches like Race Point and Nauset Light require a National Park Service permit. Town beaches in Wellfleet, Orleans, Dennis, and Hyannis require a permit from the individual town. Permits cost 200 to 500 dollars and take two to four weeks to process. How far in advance should I book a Cape Cod elopement photographer?

Three to nine months for peak Saturday dates. Weekday and off peak elopements are sometimes available inside thirty days. For weather sensitive months like January, February, and November, I keep flexible blocks on my calendar specifically for short notice bookings.

What if our outdoor Cape Cod ceremony gets weather?

I show up either way. I have indoor backup recommendations for every Cape beach I work. I will help you scout an indoor portrait location, plan around the worst hour of the weather, and make the storm part of the story rather than the obstacle.

Candlelit, intimate dinner, and editorial Cape Cod elopements

Most Cape Cod elopements I photograph fall into one of three vibes. The candlelit elopement is two people, a beach or harbor ceremony at sunset, then a candlelit dinner for ten at a Pelham House or Wequassett private dining room. The intimate dinner elopement is the dinner itself, with the ceremony folded inside a long restaurant table evening with chef driven menus.

The editorial elopement is the fashion forward portrait sequence, often on a North Beach or Newcomb Hollow shoreline at golden hour, with the couple styled in a way that reads as Vogue more than traditional bridal. All three of these are growing categories in 2026 and all three are well suited to Cape Cod’s combination of oceanfront natural light and refined small property dining rooms.
