As a wedding photographer capturing a wedding, every wedding day is a new adventure. The excitement and anticipation of capturing the love and emotions of the couple and their loved ones is a feeling like no other. But before I even arrive on site, my mental preparation starts the night before. I go over the schedule, the list of must-have shots and I visualize the different scenarios that might happen on the day. I also make sure that all my gear is in working order and that I have extra batteries, memory cards and any other necessary equipment.
When I arrive on site, the first thing I do is to introduce myself and make sure everyone feels comfortable and happy. I take the time to get to know the couple, their families and their friends. This not only makes them feel at ease, but it also helps me understand their personalities and how to best capture their unique love story. I ask them about their preferences, what kind of photos they like, and what they expect from me on their big day.
Once I’ve made my rounds and said my hellos, I begin to survey the locations. I look for creative angles, good light and interesting backgrounds. I take note of any potential challenges and think of ways to overcome them. I also scout the best location for the couple’s first look, the ceremony, and the reception. This is a crucial step for me as it helps me plan my shots and ensures that I capture the best images possible.
As the day unfolds, I am constantly on the lookout for those candid and emotional moments. I pay attention to the couple’s interactions, the guests’ reactions and the overall atmosphere. I make sure to be in the right place at the right time to capture all the special moments as they happen. I also make sure to capture those little details that often go unnoticed, such as the bouquet, the rings, the dress, etc. They are all important elements that tell the story of the day.
One of the things I love most about being a wedding photographer is being able to have so much fun with the couple and their guests. I believe that when people are having a good time, their true personalities shine through and that leads to the best reactions and poses. I encourage laughter and playfulness and I am not above making silly faces or noises to get the desired reaction. I also make sure to be discreet and not to interfere with the flow of the day, and I always respect the couple’s wishes.
As the day comes to a close, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. I know that the images I have captured will be treasured for a lifetime and that’s a feeling that is truly priceless. Being a wedding photographer is more than just a job, it’s a privilege and an honor to be able to tell the unique love story of each couple through my lens. It’s important for me to make sure that the couple and their families and friends feel comfortable and happy, and that they have a good time on their special day. And I always make sure to deliver the final product that truly represents the couple and their special day, one that they will treasure for a lifetime.
