The Wedding Guide

Nantucket Wedding Photographer.

Nantucket weddings have a quality the rest of New England can’t imitate. Salt air. Cobblestone. Quahog light at the edge of dusk. If you’re planning a wedding on the island at The Wauwinet, the Galley Beach, the Sankaty Head Golf Club, or a private home along the harbor, you want a photographer who treats Nantucket like Nantucket and not just another coastal town. That’s what this page is for.

Below is the proposal I photographed for Julian and Rachel at The Wauwinet last summer. It’s the kind of work I want more of. Long form coverage of one perfect Nantucket moment, with the venue and the light sharing the lead.

A SUNSET PROPOSAL AT THE WAUWINET

The Wauwinet sits on the quiet end of the island, eight miles from town, where the harbor opens to the Atlantic and the dunes pull the light long into the evening. Julian planned the proposal for sunset on the resort’s back lawn. The strip of grass between the main house and the water. I suggested I hide near the dune fence so I could photograph the moment without Rachel knowing.

I shot from a distance through the grass with a long lens and then closed in as she said yes. The frames that follow are the unedited story of those forty minutes. The walk down, the question, the reaction, the slow loop along the dock, the quiet moments after.

The Wauwinet itself does most of the styling. The white cedar shingles, the weathered fence line, the blue hydrangeas in July, the way the sun bounces off the water at six o’clock. As a Nantucket wedding photographer, what I look for at venues like this is the rhythm of natural light through the property. Where to be at golden hour, which dock looks best at blue hour, where the wind off the harbor will move a veil the right way.

A small crowd of hotel guests had drifted out to the porch and the bar as the sun dropped, and they were the first ones to see Julian go to one knee. Word travels fast at a resort like this. By the time Julian and Rachel walked back up from the lawn there were a few rounds of applause and a handful of warm congratulations waiting for them. We did portraits along the boardwalk and at the lifeguard chair after that. Editorial wedding photography on Nantucket lives in moments like these. Quiet, between scenes, where the island does the work and the camera just keeps up.

WHY NANTUCKET WEDDINGS WORK

Nantucket gives you a wedding day that almost no other Northeast destination can. The island is small enough that every venue feels intimate, but built well enough that the production value is unmistakable. The Wauwinet is the most editorial of the lot. Luxury service, oceanfront access, a curated guest experience that rivals anywhere in New England. Beyond Wauwinet, Galley Beach delivers the toes in sand reception. The Nantucket Hotel and the Beach Club bring the in town energy. Sankaty Head Golf Club offers Nantucket’s most classic country club aesthetic, perched on the bluff with bay views in three directions.

A Nantucket wedding photographer needs to understand the island’s logistics as much as its light. The ferry schedule. The taxi shortage. The Sconset Bluff Walk for portraits. The lighthouse at Brant Point at low tide versus high. Couples who book Nantucket are paying for an island wedding, and the photography should reflect that the photographer knows the island.

WORKING WITH WILL ON YOUR NANTUCKET WEDDING

I shoot Nantucket weddings as the lead photographer, usually with a second shooter for ceremony coverage and reception room reads. Travel from Cape Cod is the fast ferry from Hyannis (about an hour) plus a short drive on the island. For full day Nantucket weddings I plan to be on the island the night before so we are shooting first light if the schedule calls for it. Travel fees, ferry, and overnight lodging are quoted up front in the package. No surprises after booking.

All Nantucket coverage includes a planning call before the wedding, usually an hour, sometimes two, where we walk through the timeline, the venue, the family logistics, and the moments you’re most worried about. For Wauwinet weddings specifically I’ll often build in extra time at the harbor at blue hour or at the lawn at golden hour. The shot list never feels rushed because we’ve already mapped the day.

NANTUCKET WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER FAQ

How much does a Nantucket wedding photographer cost?

Full day Nantucket wedding coverage with Perla Images starts at $7,000 and goes up depending on hours, second shooter, and travel. Ferry and lodging are included in the quote so what you see is what you pay. See pricing for the current packages.

Will you travel for a Nantucket wedding?

Yes. I cover Nantucket regularly from my Cape Cod base. Travel is built into the package. Ferry, one or two nights of lodging if needed, ground transport on the island.

Do you photograph weddings at The Wauwinet specifically?

Yes, and Julian and Rachel’s proposal above is from the property. The Wauwinet is one of my favorite Northeast venues. The light off the harbor at sunset is unlike anywhere else on the island.

How far in advance should I book a Nantucket wedding photographer?

Most Nantucket couples book 12 to 18 months out. Peak summer Saturdays in July and August are the first to fill. If you’re planning a smaller shoulder season Nantucket wedding (May, June, September, October) I’ll often have availability inside 6 months.

Can you recommend Nantucket wedding venues?

I can. I keep an updated short list of venues by guest count, aesthetic, and price. Reach out via the wedding inquiry form and tell me your guest count and date and I’ll send venue recommendations with photos from my work at each.

Do you photograph elopements and proposals on Nantucket too?

Yes. Proposals like Julian and Rachel’s above, micro weddings (under 20 guests), and full elopements are all part of the Nantucket coverage. Pricing is different for sub day coverage. See the elopement photography page for that breakdown.

PLANNING A NANTUCKET WEDDING?

If you’re building a Nantucket wedding (or proposal) for next season and need a photographer who already knows the island and its venues, I’d love to talk. Start your wedding inquiry here, or browse the portfolio for more recent Northeast wedding work.
