We set out to photograph Lily & Johnny inside one of Boston’s most iconic spaces: the Boston Public Library in Copley Square. We believe a Boston Public Library engagement is at its best when grand, historic architecture meets modern, editorial creativity.
From the marble grand staircase to the soaring arches of Bates Hall and the calm of the McKim Courtyard, this Back Bay landmark gave us a backdrop unlike anywhere else in Boston.

Lily & Johnny came to the Boston Public Library with an easy, magnetic connection. Their willingness to get creative and have fun together was there from the very first frame.
Their personalities were warm, open and welcoming from the start and that energy translated effortlessly through the camera as we moved from the grand staircase into Bates Hall.
An Editorial Eye
Architecture Made for Editorial
The Boston Public Library is a gift for editorial portraiture. Towering marble, the vaulted arches of Bates Hall, painted murals and deep pools of natural light give every frame a sense of scale and drama. We treat a space like this the way a fashion editorial would, composing each shot so the architecture carries as much weight as the couple, so every image feels timeless rather than posed.

We believe every shot should be composed and lit with intention. Every scene is unique and calls for a new way to highlight it. The angles we choose are always driven by a deep desire to tell the real story, and do it in a way that enhances the feeling.
Golden Hour in Copley Square
A Real Life Back Bay Backdrop
After exploring the library’s interiors, we stepped out into Copley Square and took a walk to the Public Gardens to finish the session in the open Back Bay light.
The columns of the McKim façade, the garden flowers in full bloom and the surrounding Back Bay streets turned the heart of Boston into a real life backdrop.
